Hyde Park Bank Tech Center
Our work for the Hyde Park Bank includes urban design studies for areas adjacent to the main bank building on 53rd Street. This proposed project, which was a result of one such study, is a 30,000 square foot high-tech center for Hyde Park’s extensive university community. The building incorporates principles of sustainable environmental design and reconciles contemporary forms with an historic urban context.
Mass and materials create continuities of urban scale and spatial definition without historicism. Crisp asymmetry provides a lively complement to the adjacent neoclassical bank. On the north façade, the public face, we designed an urban forecourt featuring a raised reflecting pool intended to release heat from the building’s geothermal cooling system.
